Covidlogging And Retro-Blogging

In case you have not noticed, the time for daily news updates here at ArklahomBoy has passed—for now. I already spend a lot of time reading the news, never mind formatting and posting links. It is summertime and I am way too busy with real life to blog regularly.

I started retro-blogging a couple of years ago, when the coronavirus was new and everything was shutting down. It was kind of a joke at first, but it has been good re-connecting with some of the other old-school bloggers.

The last time I got too busy to blog, I shut down ArklahomBoy altogether. Now that I have re-carved my little niche out of the decaying corpse of the Blogosphere, I figure I will keep it. It may be nothing but Psychedelic Pseconds for a while, but I am still around…

Iran’s Lies About Its Nuclear Program Foreshadow Worse To Come – Analysis

The Jerusalem Post:

Israel has recently accused Iran of lying to the world regarding its banned nuclear activity. The BBC noted that Israel’s prime minister made these accusations “ahead of a meeting next week where International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi is due to present a report on its probe into unexplained nuclear material found at three undeclared sites in Iran.”

The report also noted that “Western countries suspect Iran might be seeking to build nuclear weapons in violation of conventions – something Iran strongly denies. Israel considers Iran, which does not recognize Israel’s right to exist and calls for its elimination, a major threat to both Israel and the wider world.”

Turkey Is Playing Off NATO Against Russia With Eyes On Northern Syria

Newsweek:

Turkey appears to be leveraging its position as a deciding factor in the U.S.-led NATO military alliance’s attempts to counter Russia’s war in Ukraine by planning a new operation in northern Syria, where factions backed by Washington and Moscow both oppose Ankara’s aims.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared his opposition to the bids of Finland and Sweden to join NATO, arguing that the two countries offer safe havens for supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a separatist group that has waged an insurgency for Kurdish autonomy for more than three decades. The Turkish leader’s approval would be necessary for the Western bloc to greenlight its latest expansion.

The people who control our government, and the ones who disseminate its talking-points, want you to be outraged by the fact that Russia is currently reclaiming historically-Russian territories lost in the 1900’s. This is, after all, why you are supposed to accept the fact that your cost of living has skyrocketed. We must have all these sanctions to fight back against Russia because our way of life is being threatened by Russia’s behavior.

Simultaneously, if the Turkish state moves on territory in Syria which it lost in the 1900’s, then that is not a problem, because Turkey is a Western democracy.

Congress Launches A New Bipartisan Effort To End The War In Yemen

The Intercept:

Forty-one Democrats and Republicans have signed on as co-sponsors, including CPC Chair Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who introduced an earlier version in 2019. DeFazio also secured the support of more moderate Democratic leaders, like House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and House Rules Committee Chair Jim McGovern, D-Mass., whose panel will have to shuffle the resolution through to a floor vote. There are five Republican co-sponsors: Reps. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.; Thomas Massie, R-Ky.; Ken Buck, R-Colo.; Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.; and Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.

And the resolution has the endorsement of more than 100 organizations, including the Friends Committee on National Legislation, Demand Progress, and Just Foreign Policy, which are urging members of Congress this week to support it. “This is more essential than ever to maintain momentum for the fragile two-month truce and to prevent backsliding by blocking U.S. support for any renewed hostilities,” their letter, shared with The Intercept, says.

It is not in the interest of the people who control our government to allow the Yemen war to end. Our government needs to stay as far away from this effort as possible.

4 Killed In Shooting At Tulsa Medical Building, Shooter Dead

Politico:

A gunman carrying a rifle and a handgun killed four people Wednesday at a Tulsa medical building on a hospital campus, police said, the latest in a series of deadly mass shootings across the country in recent weeks.

Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish confirmed the number of dead and said the shooter also was dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
